Gibson and other guitars
« on: December 27, 2008, 04:29:46 PM »
I have some - probably stupid - question.
How "gibson" should be pronounced?
I mean - how "G" in it should be? like "g" in name George (or in like japanese "j" in f.ex. jiyuu) or like "g" in good (or jp "gomen")? In other words, in katakana it would be ji-bu-so-nu or gi-bu-so-nu? XD
I hope I explained it clearly.
Please tell me, because I've heard this two versions several times and I'm confused now.

You pronounce "gi" like the letter "g" alone in the alphabet then the b.  Son like sun.

Gibson qui Japanese would pronounce probably like that : jii-bu-so-n (.....).

Btw, you finish an english word in katakana by -u only if it's a silent vowel ;)

Thank you :)
And I wasn't sure about 'n' (I've forgotten the rule) so thanks for that too.

...er, I don't know why, but for me "gibuson" would sound better xD *now walks around her room saying "jiibuson" to get used to that* XD

No, you're wrong, Lebon14. It's pronounced just as it's written... GIBSON.
Just like JASON, but not JA, GI. Not like Gin, but like Mel Gibson.(If you know the actor, anyway >.>)
And if you write it in katakana it's .... Gi-bu-so-n

Cheers,

XDDDDDDD

OMG _^_ So it's 1:1 now... someone else, please, tell me that's gi-bu-so-n.
And yeah, I think you're right, Arthuro - I've completly forgotten about Mel Gibson XD
...
Oh, I know! XD

I also think that it's spoken gi-bu-so-n.
Also wie man auf Deutsch eben ein "g" ausspricht.
brigens gutes Beispiel mit Mel Gibson, Arthuro^^
Excellent example, Arthuro...

I owe my error to the French pronounciation lol.
"ji" and "gi" in French, is the same thing.  The English "Gi" is "Gui".  Thinking to Mel Gibson, you are right "Guibson" for a French pronounciation.  And... HOW COULD I FORGET ABOUT "GI" (.) in JAPANESE DAMN (thinks about Giri giri chop).

Yay! Just learned to play Ai No Bakudan on my guitar. It's a pretty easy song on a B'z scale...
or well I've used the last 4-5 days on trying to remember all the chords and move fast enough on the fret board.

Love my new guitar! Much better than the beginner guitar, but still pretty far from a real Gibson.

Then which one? Wham - last Christmas or something like that?

Now I'm trying to learn the song "3 Gatsu 9 Ka" by "Remioromen" if you know them. It's a great song from the saddest dorama ever! - 1 Litre of Tears.

I haven't heard that song before, but it sounds nice:P

3 Gatsu 9 Ka is actually pretty easy. It's just the same 6-7 chords over and over again.
They just move the order of them from time to time in the song. I'm learning it from this guy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsXrHyJtjN4

I've also learned "Sora mo Toberu Hazu" by Spitz from him. Although in the Spitz song he's not just playing the song like in "3 Gatsu 9 Ka" - he's also going slowly through the whole song and telling about the stroke order and what chords to hit.
He's japanese, but you don't need to understand any japanese to learn from. He's really good!

He's also got a video where he teached how to play another Spitz song called "Cherry". I'm planning on learning it someday ;). He's got no B'z songs, tho :'(

I got a new guitar again!
Finally a real Gibson! So much better sound than my other guitar!
http://www.aage.dk/shop/elektriske-guitarer/gibson/les-paul-studio-wine-red-ch.html
Just 8000 kr (around $1100)

I actually planned on buying a more expensive model, but the guy in the shop explained that the sound difference between the cheap Gibsons and the more expensive is very small. The reason why they're more expensive is because they've got a nicer finish.
Gibson guitars are handmade, so the price can go up very drasticly if it just takes a couple of hours more to build.
Just waiting for my Effect pedal to arrive now...

Trying to learn FEAR :)

Wow, if you're willing to spend that much, why didn't you get a Tak Matsumoto model?

PS: You should put some videos playing the guitar on youtube, this will help you improve even further

Cause Tak Matsumoto's new model is an Epiphone. Not a Gibson.

I'm gonna need a new video camera to upload videos to youtube. We've only got this old~ one which is recording on tapes  :(
